Why it belongs on this list: The ~39% acceptance rate makes Rochester one of the most realistic options on this entire list for a fully-funded education at a research university. This is where I went for my bachelor's degree on a full-ride scholarship — I can personally vouch for how well they support international students.

One thing to know about Columbia: it's test-optional for the 2026–2027 cycle, but the SAT/ACT becomes required again starting August 2027 — so if you're applying for Fall 2028 or later, plan to take the test.
