Why International Students Need a STEM Degree for OPT Extension

so if you are an international student studying in America then I need you to listen to this and it's quite controversial but if you do not graduate with a stem degree that will qualify for a stem O P t extension then it's gonna be very very very very very hard for you to find a job and the reason being is if you do not have that stem extension which is uh an additional I believe uh 24 months then you can only legally work in the United States for one year after you graduate now that makes it kind of hard for employers to give you an opportunity because they know that they're only gonna have you for one year and it's like okay why would I wanna choose you over you know an American or somebody else who has three years of um you know work authorization so if you are in college right now as an international student and you are majoring in a non stem field what you should do is you should double major and I know it sounds rough but find the easiest stem degree in your college and basically have a double major because it's gonna be very very hard for you to try and get a job outside if you don't have a stem extension or at least the possibility of a stem extension now I wish I knew this because I had to go through things the hard way and basically had to rush off to graduate school in order to make sure that you know I was still going to be able to remain in America so definitely get a double major if you're not currently um in a stem program
