As many of you guys already know, the U S. Travel ban list has been updated and there are now 39 countries that are on this list. Now about half of the countries have a full ban and the other half have a partial ban. Now for partial ban, what that means is basically student visas and tourist visas can no longer be obtained if you come from those countries. So you cannot get a student visa or a tourist visa in order to come to America in 2,026 if your country is on that list. Now, the U S. Government has actually given some reasons on why these countries have been added to this list, and I wanna go through a couple of them with you. The first country is Sierra Leone. They say that Sierra Leone has a very high overstay rate, meaning that when somebody gets the visa and they come to America, they do not leave at the designated time that they have to leave. So in other words, they overstay their visa, they stay in America longer than they're allowed to. And now what they're also saying that about 35% of the students who come and study in America from Sierra Leone overstay their visa. The next country is South Sudan, and it's been placed on the full ban list. Now they saying the reason why South Sudan is on this list is because they have historically failed to accept back its removed nationals. The next country that has a partial ban now is the Gambia. And the reason why they added them to this list is because they say they have an overstay rate of 38%. Basically, 40% of the students that come to study in America stay afterwards illegally. This moves us to the big one, Nigeria. They've been placed on the partial ban list. And the reason why they've been added there isn't really because of their overstay rate, although they do mention it. The reason why they've banned Nigeria is because they say certain groups operate freely in Nigeria, and this creates a substantial screening and vetting difficulty. So these are just a few reasons as to why countries have been placed on these travel ban lists. Now, even though this may be disheartening, and this is very troubling news to a lot of people, I want to tell you guys this. A lot of policies can change. These things can be challenged in the courts, or there can be new circumstances that come up whereby the United States of America decides to remove somebody from the list. So having said that, if you are a student wanting to come study in America, then I still encourage you to apply to schools in America. This is because things can change really quickly and your country might be taken off the list in the future. Now, I am keeping up to date with everything happening, immigration.
